The Lee County Historical and Genealogical Society will do Lee County research for $8.00 per hour for society members and $12.00 per hour for non-members. An initial fee of $12.00 must be received before any research is begun.
What is included
A basic request will include searching the following materials: • Lee County Birth Index 1856-1930. • Lee County Marriage Index 1839-1915. • Lee County Death Index 1877-1999. • Lee County Cemetery Index (walk not sexton records / most, but not all county cemeteries) • Newspaper indexes of Lee County, • Dixon Telegraph 1851-1965 and Jul 1995-2000 • Amboy News 1882-1886 • Amboy Journal 1856-1882 • The Lee County Master History Index (25 town & county history books)
Photocopies
Photocopies done as part of research request are now $1 for non members and 50 cents for members. This is in conjunction with research charge, and done by Research Committee.
What is required
Please send a self-addressed, stamped, business size envelope with your request form. Include one for every four look-ups. If you would like single history or newspaper articles, that have come from our indexes, what we call a Look-up, the cost is $3.00 per article copied for members and $5.00 for non members. Please fill out “Look-up Request Form.” These look ups are done by volunteers at library. This is only for copies of indexed entries. We will publish a free query in our monthly newsletter for any person looking for ancestors in Lee County. Please include as much information as you know about the person you are researching, and tell us what information you are looking for. Include your name and U.S. Postal address so persons who read your query can write you. Please consider sending copies of your Lee County family tree information for our society’s files. We have had great luck connecting people who are searching the same family lines.

Refund Policy
Sometimes a search is fruitless, and the initial fee is NOT refundable if no information is found. All money received is used to fund projects of the society and buy resources to help genealogists.
